Borussia Dortmund's managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke has reacted with disappointment to the attack on Schiedsrichter Patrick Ittrich by a fan of VfB Stuttgart. "I am disappointed by the behavior of the fan. This behavior has no place in football," said Watzke.
The BVB boss hopes that the fan will be punished. "I hope that the DFB will investigate the incident and impose appropriate sanctions," said Watzke.
The incident occurred in the closing stages of the Bundesliga match between VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund. A fan ran onto the pitch and attacked Ittrich. The referee was not injured.
The DFB has already announced that it will investigate the incident. The fan could face a stadium ban and a fine.
